My key skills and experience are in copy-editing, proofreading and project-managing high-quality illustrated art books.
I enjoy working on a variety of art books – both large and small – on a wide range of subjects.
My degree in Modern Languages also enables me to copy-edit translations from French and German.
The Brief
As all projects are different, at an early stage I will discuss the work required on the book to agree the brief and the schedule with the client. The aim is to outline how I can most effectively be involved.
Project Manager
With strong project-management and communication skills, I can manage projects through every stage of the production process, from unedited text to final proofs, often to tight deadlines.
As part of a team, I help to bring the whole project together, liaising with the publisher, author, designer, picture researcher
and production staff – and, for co-publications, with colleagues from international museums and individual contributors –
to deliver the book on schedule and on budget.
Editor
My responsibilities as an editor include checking the text for clarity of expression, concision, factual and grammatical accuracy, internal consistency, length, punctuation, sense, spelling, structure, style and suitability for intended audience.
My role as a copy-editor involves working closely with the author on the unedited text, making suggestions, resolving queries, incorporating all corrections in the Microsoft Word file, keying in the pictures and agreeing the final text before it goes to design. At the same time, I check the text against the pictures and compile a style sheet for the project.
